Assigning items and categories
Tell VendNex which Square items belong to which vendor.
This step only matters if you use Square. It's how a sale in Square becomes a sale attributed to a specific vendor.
Two ways to assign
You can attribute sales to a vendor either by assigning individual items or by assigning whole categories. Both work, and you can mix them.
- Individual items — best when a vendor sells a defined set of products you've listed in Square.
- Categories — best when a vendor owns an entire class of goods. Everything in that Square category counts as theirs.
Categories are optional. A vendor with only individual items assigned works fine, and so does a vendor with only categories.
Assigning a category is the lower-maintenance option: anything you later add to that category in Square is automatically attributed to the vendor, and it shows up on their Items page without you doing anything. Individually assigned items have to be assigned one at a time.
How to assign
Open a vendor's detail page and use Assign Item in the Assigned Items panel. You can search your Square catalog and filter by category.
What happens to unassigned sales
A Square sale for an item that isn't assigned to anyone — directly or through a category — won't be attributed to a vendor. If a vendor says a sale is missing from their report, an unassigned item is the first thing to check.
